Using Perfect Wiki you can import already existing files into your knowledge base.
What import options we support:
- Markdown and text files (.md, .txt)
- Microsoft Word files (.docx, .doc), OpenDocument (.odt) and Rich Text (.rtf)
- Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx, .xls, .xlsm) — each sheet becomes a section with a table, up to 500 rows per sheet
- Images (.png, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .webp, .bmp) — the text in the image is recognized automatically (OCR)
- Outlook emails (.msg) and email messages (.eml)
- ZIP archives/Perfect Wiki backup (.zip)
- HTML files (.html, .mht)
- Presentation slides (.ppt, .pptx)
- PDF files
- Tables (.csv)
To import these files, just click ‘Import’ (bottom right corner) and drag and drop files from your desktop or click ‘Add Page’ button → Import / ’Import Files'

How to import from Perfect Wiki backup?
To import files from your previous Perfect Wiki backup, you have to:
- Choose a Perfect Wiki knowledge base, where you store the needed data
- Export your knowledge base data in HTML format
- Then you're to open the knowledge base where you want to import your data
- Click Import
- Choose the downloaded HTML file with your backup data
What happens when I import an image?
The image is added to the page, and the text we recognize in it goes into a collapsed 🤖 OCR section below. You can expand and edit that text. It's also searchable, and the AI chatbot can use it in answers. If there's no text in the image (a photo or a logo), you get just the image.
What happens with large Excel files?
Each sheet becomes a heading with a table. A sheet with more than 500 rows is cut at 500, with a note above its table, and the original file is attached to the page so nothing is lost.
What happens when I import an Outlook email?
The email subject becomes the page title, and the sender, recipients and message body become the content. Attachments in the email aren't imported yet.
